We are currently seeking candidates to be a part of Tri-County United Way’s Community Investment Committee

The TCUW Community Investment (Allocations) Committee is an integral committee to the Tri-County United Way because it reviews all our agencies and programs, to decide in a group effort, how much of our raised funding goes to each program or non-profit. This is an excellent way to learn about the needs of our community and the great work of our local non-profits. New volunteers are paired with a veteran of the committee to do a site visit of an agency and then report back to the group on the night of the agency presentation. Each agency presents their case for funding and the committee members in the group rate each agency based on a scoresheet. At the final night, the group comes to a consensus of how much money each non-profit will receive based on the amount raised by the TCUW.

Details about timelines and commitment:

  • March 27, 2024: The first meeting and agency visits assigned. This is when each new volunteer gets paired with a veteran committee member.
  • April 1-April 15, 2024: Agency site visits conducted by volunteers. This date is set by the volunteers.
  •  April 23, April 25, April 30, May 2: Agency presentations. Each pair will only sit on either a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday night for two weeks from 5:30-7:30 pm.

The overall time commitment for volunteers during this period, encompassing training, site visits, proposal assessments, and discussion is estimated to range from 15 to 25 hours at max. This leadership opportunity seeks to motivate and enable employees from local businesses to effectively serve community needs.

We are currently seeking candidates to be a part of VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program

Volunteers are needed for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. No prior experience is required. All volunteers will be provided with training tailored and will also receive resources for independent study on fundamental income tax laws for both federal and state returns.

On average, volunteers dedicate approximately two to four hours per week from mid-January to April 15 to the VITA program. Volunteers represent diverse backgrounds and professions, so one doesn’t need to be an accountant to make a meaningful contribution. The training program, coupled with user-friendly software, equips volunteers to effectively assist others with tax preparation.

Our volunteers are offered a no-cost, comprehensive training program that consists of in-class instruction and self-paced study.  This training will prepare you to take the IRS certification test.
